Rock Hill convicted drug dealer was wanted on a gun charge when he went for a walk
A Rock Hill man with drug dealing and weapons convictions, sought by ATF agents on a new gun charge, was caught after he was spotted walking down a residential street, police said.
Tovoris Shontae Massey, 32, was found “walking in the roadway” on Pearl Street Tuesday by Rock Hill Police Department violent crimes unit officers, said Capt. Mark Bollinger of the Rock Hill Police Department.
A federal indictment against Massey from September, that was unsealed Tuesday, accuses Massey of possessing a .40-caliber handgun in February.
A federal warrant for Massey’s arrest had been issued Sept. 4, court documents show.
Massey was charged by Rock Hill police in February for weapon possession and released on $8,000 bond, records show. That charge in South Carolina state court remains pending, even as federal prosecutors have charged Massey with a federal crime in the incident.
Massey has convictions for cocaine trafficking, cocaine distribution and weapons charges; he was sentenced to five years in prison in 2007, court records show. Those convictions bar him, under state and federal law, from possessing a weapon or ammunition.
Massey was extradited by ATF agents to federal custody after his arrest on the gun charge, police said.
