Man found fatally shot in south Charlotte shopping center parking lot
Police found a 33-year-old man fatally shot in a south Charlotte shopping center parking lot on Thursday afternoon.
Alonzo Cedric Parker was pronounced dead at the scene in the 7000 block of Sharon Lakes Road, which is near South Boulevard.
Parker was Charlotte’s 82nd homicide victim of 2019.
News media photos showed crime scene tape and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police cars in the parking lot of Sharon Lakes Retail Plaza.
In a tweet at 5:50 p.m., CMPD confirmed that officers were “conducting a homicide investigation” and that a male was “pronounced deceased at the scene.”
In a news release later Thursday night, police said they found a male with a gunshot wound “outside of a business complex” after responding to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon about 4:40 p.m.
Homicide detectives were canvassing the area late Thursday for more witnesses and asked anyone with information to call the homicide unit at 704-432-8477 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
Shots were fired into a vehicle that crashed into a power pole, WCCB reported.
A red SUV at the scene appears to have damaged windows, according to WCNC
