Man killed in Ballantyne home is identified. Person of interest sought by CMPD

The man who was killed Thursday in Charlotte’s Ballantyne area has been identified as 45-year-old Alvin Fletcher by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

Investigators say the killing was discovered shortly before 4 p.m. in the 12000 block of Paperbark Circle, in a town home community off Providence Road West.

A man with “apparent trauma” was pronounced dead at the scene, police said in an update shortly after 6 p.m. It was Charlotte’s 92nd homicide of the year, according to CMPD.

CMPD is searching for a person of interest -- a man described by police as an “invited guest” who was at the home Thursday afternoon, Observer news partner WBTV reported.

The person sought for questioning in the death was a friend of Fletcher, and the two men had been in “an altercation” in Fletcher’s home before the killing, according to WSOC-TV. CMPD has not released the person of interest’s name.

Police asked anyone with information to call the CMPD homicide unit at 704-432-8477. Crime Stoppers accepts anonymous tips at 704-334-1600.
