Uber’s latest changes aim to make pick-ups at the Charlotte airport easier. Here’s how
Charlotte Douglas International Airport travelers are getting a new, easy pick-up option with Uber.
The ride share company is rolling out a new feature for airport travelers at more than 20 airports across the country, including at CLT.
Last year, Uber launched Uber Reserve, allowing customers to book trips in advance. Now, Uber is extending that feature, letting customers book up to 30 days in advance and allowing people to submit flight information so drivers can adjust arrival based on flight times.
The driver will also wait up to 60 minutes at the airport at no additional charge, according to Uber.
The Uber Reserve airport features are available now for Uber Black and Uber Black SUV.
The feature was launched Wednesday at more than 20 U.S. airports, including in Atlanta, Charleston, Charlotte, two airports in Chicago, two airports in Dallas, Denver, Fort Myers, Florida, two airports in Houston, three airports in the Miami area, Nashville, Tennessee, New Orleans, two airports in New York City, Orlando, Florida, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Seattle and two airports in Washington DC.
Airport parking and drop-off upgrades
Passengers traveling out of CLT for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic hit North Carolina will see a number of changes to the parking and drop-off experiences.
Most recently in September, CLT announced door changes to the airport’s entry and exit as construction continues on the $608-million terminal lobby expansion project.
On the ticketing level, Door 3 is closed and the center door is open. Doors 1 and 5 remained open. And on the baggage claim level, Door 3 also is closed and the center door opened. Door 1 remained open.
Parking rates at the airport increased in July, moving the maximum daily charge to $24 for the hourly deck and increasing the daily charges to $16 for the express deck, $12 for the daily deck and $10 for long-term lots.
Also during the coronavirus pandemic, the airport launched an online parking reservation tool that allows travelers to book parking spots ahead of time for discounted rates.
Customers using that online tool must book parking at least six hours ahead of arriving at the airport. The airport also offers a real-time interactive parking availability map online.
Passenger traffic at the airport dropped dramatically in early 2020 due to the pandemic, but has recovered in recent months.
In fact, in July — the most recent month of passenger data available — passengers boarding planes at the Charlotte airport surpassed 2019 levels for the first time since the pandemic hit North Carolina early last year.
