Student found dead in NC high school bathroom. Classes canceled as police investigate
A student was found dead in a bathroom at Mooresville High School on Wednesday morning, and classes were dismissed for the day as police investigated the circumstances.
In a message to parents, Principal Luke Brown said the case appears to be a death by suicide but provided no further details.
“The Mooresville Police Department are on site and investigating,” Brown said in the message.
Students were dismissed at 9 a.m., according to the principal’s message. The school has nearly 1,900 students.
“We will keep you informed as we learn more and are allowed,” Brown told parents. A counseling crisis team was available to students on campus Wednesday, he said.
Mooresville police had released no information about the death by early Wednesday afternoon.
Schools in the Mooresville Graded School District are closed Thursday for the Veterans Day holiday, district spokeswoman Tanae Sump-McLean told The Charlotte Observer. “As of now we plan to resume school on Friday,” she said in an email.
