Search enters second day for missing Lake Wylie boater

Crews Wednesday morning resumed the search for a missing boater on Lake Wylie.

First responders were called to the Catawba Yacht Club right at sunset — about 7:40 p.m. — Tuesday, told someone may have drowned, according to the Steele Creek Fire Department. One person was missing after an accident involving a rowing-style boat, Capt. Bob Fredrickson wrote in an email. Five agencies have been involved with the search. Officials have not released the identity of the boater.

The Charlotte Observer’s news partner, WSOC, reported Wednesday morning crews found the missing man’s boat.

A co-worker told WBTV the missing boater was a experienced boat racer and member of the Catwaba Yacht Club.

Crews left the area around 10 p.m. Tuesday and had returned before 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to Fredrickson. They found a dead body using sonar devices Wednesday evening.

He asked that boaters use caution near Youngblood Road West and Here at Last Lane while teams continue to search.
