▪ Antiques and Artisans show and sale, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Liberty Street, York. Lunch available, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and bake sale, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Parker Ramsay, organ virtuoso, will give a free concert, 3 p.m.Saturday. Ramsay, a former student of York resident Hazel Somerville, is organist and choir master at Christ & St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in New York City. In 2014, he was awarded first prize at the Sweelinck International Organ Competition in Holland. His program Saturday will include works by J.S. Bach, Cesar Franck, Feliz Mendelssohn and Sir Charles Villiers Stanford.
▪ 34th annual Summerfest car show, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in downtown York. Entry fee, $20. First 75 entries get dash plaques. More than 50 door prizes for participants. Registration ends at noon. There will be entertainment, food and drinks. Details: yorksummerfest.com.
▪ VFW Post 3746 on Crawford Road will sponsor a Labor Day Cherokee Casino bus trip Sept. 4. Cost is $40 to ride, and participants get a $30 coupon for the casino. Leave at 7 a.m. from the Kmart parking lot on Cherry Road, and riders also will be picked up at Bi-Lo in York. Return around 9 p.m. Reservations: 803-366-1910.
Fundraisers
▪ Boys & Girls Clubs of York County is one of the top 200 finalists in State Farm Neighborhood Assist national contest, The club has a chance to win $25,000 to support Healthy Habits for York County children at the clubs. The club’s initiative was the only one selected in South Carolina. Vote daily and give them 10 votes, or spread votes among other causes. ▪ Central City Optimist Club 14th annual Charity Golf Tournament, 8:15 a.m. Sept. 9 at Spring Lake County Club, 1375 Spring Lake Road, York. Entry fee: $240, foursome and $60, single. ▪ Humorist Jeanne Robertson brings her brand of humor for a Hospice fundraiser Sept. 7 at Baxter Hood Center, Rock Hill. Robertson headlines Hospice & Community Care’s 5th Annual LOL event, which raises money for under-insured Hospice patients. She is author of three books on humor and can be heard on Sirius XM radio’s Laugh USA family comedy channels. ▪ Espaliers will be the topic for First Friday in the Garden, 11 a.m., Sept.1 at Glencairn Garden Learning Center, 826 Edgemont Ave., Rock Hill. Espalier is the practice of controlling woody plant growth for ornamental or agricultural purposes by pruning and tying branches to a frame such as a wall or trellis. Clemson Extension Agent Paul Thompson will lead the program.
