‘Family fun’ at Herald’s 5K run
Saturday’s “Jingle Around The Block” 5K run attracted more than 140 participants in Rock Hill. The Herald hosted the event, with presenting sponsor Arrow Pointe Credit Union, to raise money for the Empty Stocking Fund.
Registration fee proceeds from the event will benefit local families who need help this Christmas paying for gifts for children. The Herald’s annual Empty Stocking Fund initiative is part of the “Holiday Partners” network, formerly called the Sleigh Bell Network.
On Saturday, Rock Hill resident Chad Gibbs brought his four children for the family’s monthly “activity day.” Gibbs said his triplets – Micah, Ethan, and Jordyn, all age 6 – are newcomers to long-distance running but his 10-year-old Caden runs like a “professional.”
The route around downtown Rock Hill streets, Gibbs said, gave his family an opportunity to stay in shape and create memories. “Jingle Around The Block” on Saturday was good “family fun,” he said.
The run started at 8 a.m. and drew a crowd of all ages. A “fun run” was held for children.
The winner of the Herald’s first 5K race was Christopher Sacco.
