Official Rotten Tomatoes Score for 'Disclosure Day' on Opening Weekend
This weekend, Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day hits movie theaters throughout the country, and it is already racking up some strong reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film is Spielberg's latest foray into extraterrestrial life and UFOs, joining E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and War of the Worlds. And based on the reviews from both fans and critics, it seems like it stacks up with the others.
What is 'Disclosure Day'?
The film centers on a massive government and corporate conspiracy involving extraterrestrial life.
The film follows a small group of defectors and whistleblowers as they race to leak a 78-year archive of UFO sightings and alien secrets to the global public, while corporate enforcers try to stop them out of fear of mass panic.
"If you found out we weren't alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to eight billion people. We are coming close to ... Disclosure Day," the film's official description reads.
The film is rather timely, as the United States government has begun declassifying many files related to UFOs.
Rotten Tomatoes
Following the film's release, Disclosure Day has done well on Rotten Tomatoes, earning high praise from both critics and the audience, with critics giving it an 81% and audience members giving it a 75%.
"Disclosure Day is the best film about the arresting terror of pure faith since Martin Scorsese's Silence. You get all the summer popcorn Spielberg grandeur, of course, but the thesis at its heart propels it even past the direction," wrote Cory Woodruff of USA Today's For the Win.
"Frankly, this is one of the best Spielberg films I've seen in over 20 years," wrote Yasser Medina of Cinefilia.
"Spielberg is the master of cinematic storytelling and the set pieces in Disclosure Day are a testament to his gifts," wrote Rachit Gupta of Filmfare.
"This thrilling film is all about its questions, not its answers. That is the mark of a true elder statesman's wisdom," wrote Odie Henderson of The Boston Globe.
"Disclosure Day is a fun, adventurous summer thriller about extra-terrestrials, but it's also an allegory for our violent response when faced with new truths," wrote Bradley Gibson of Film Threat.
"Disclosure Day starts with a whoosh and never lets up," wrote Brian Viner of the Daily Mail.
Needless to say, the movie has turned heads since its release as it appears set to be another Spielberg hit.
