Honda Recalls 1 Million Cars For Defective Safety Kits
Plenty of new cars share parts - it cuts production costs and saves consumers money at the dealer. Most have a common thread, though, regardless of how many parts they share: a tire repair kit. These are mandated by the federal government, and Honda just issued a huge recall for its tire repair kits. 1,049,883 cars are involved in the new recall. The new recall follows another deep six-figure recall for suspension problems in other Honda models.
The brand's filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show a few vehicles subject to the recall. 2023-2026 Honda CR-V Hybrids make up the bulk of the recall - 744,530 of these have been recalled. Another 340 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell hydrogen-powered cars made in 2025 and 2026 are also part of the recall. Finally, another 305,013 Honda Accord Hybrids make up the final portion of the seven-figure recall.
Honda says that if any of these vehicles' flat tire kits are operated with the nozzle incorrectly attached to the tire's valve stem, pressure could build in the sealant bottle, not the tire. If the system's relief valve does not release pressure as intended, the bottle cap could detach.
This detachment sounds like it could be potentially violent. Honda says that as of May 28, it is aware of 8 separate injury reports among 53 other warranty claims related to the defect. The issue stems back to investigations in 2024, when Honda and its supplier for the tire repair kits became aware of the issue.
As for the fix, it's a simple one: Honda will provide owners with a new tire repair kit nozzle or the sealant bottle itself. Owners will be notified on or around July 27. In the meantime, owners can also head to NHTSA.gov to check their VIN against the recall.
