The Rev. Tucker elected S.C. Baptist Convention president

At its Nov. 11 annual meeting at Spartanburg First Baptist Church, the Rev. Tom Tucker, pastor of Sisk Memorial Baptist Church in Fort Mill, was elected president for the South Carolina Baptist Convention for 2016.

Tucker served as first vice president of the convention in 2015 and was president of the South Carolina Baptist Pastors’ Conference in 2005 and chairman of the South Carolina Baptist Executive Board in 2013. He is also a devotional speaker for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association offices in Charlotte.

“What a privilege to serve Sisk Memorial and South Carolina Baptists,” he said.

The South Carolina Baptist Convention was formed in 1821 and was the first state Baptist convention in the United States. The purpose of the South Carolina Baptist Convention is to help more than 2,100 churches to fulfill the Great Commission.

St. John’s hosting pre-parade breakfast

St. John’s United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, invites everyone to breakfast prior to the Dec. 5 Fort Mill Christmas parade.

Come early to secure a parking spot at church, pick your spot for watching the parade, then come inside the fellowship center to enjoy a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, milk, juice, coffee and hot chocolate 8:30-11 a.m.

Suggested donation is $4 per person for this all-you-can-eat meal.

Temple Kol Ami hosts Chanukah Extravaganza

Temple Kol Ami is throwing a Chanukah Extravaganza 4-6 p.m. Dec. 12 at its meeting space inside Unity Presbyterian Church, 303 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill.

There will be kids crafts stations, face painting, a photo booth, an artists bazaar, games, latkes and more all free and open to the public.

Prayer shawl ministry

Anyone who enjoys knitting or crocheting is welcome to join the prayer shawl ministry at Carolinas Cornerstone Church, 1790 Gardendale Road, Fort Mill, twice a month to pray over and knit/crochet shawls for the sick.

Young adults invited to new group

Young adults ages 18-30 who want to meet other young adults to study God’s word are invited to join the J-Walkers at Carolinas Cornerstone Church, 1790 Gardendale Road.

Grief recovery group meets weekly

Carolinas Cornerstone Church, just off S.C. 160 West at the intersection of Gardendale and Dam roads near Tega Cay, hosts Grief Share, a recovery group for adults who have lost a loved one.

Each session includes a video and a discussion among those who have suffered a loss. Elaine Muffett, who has a master’s degree in counseling and nursing from Liberty University, leads the weekly meetings 6:30-8 p.m. Mondays. She can be reached at grief@CarolinasCornerstone.org.

Higher Ground offers after-school program

The Higher Ground Church Child Development Center is enrolling students in its Christ-centered after-school program.

Kindergarteners to fifth-graders are welcome. The program is a spiritual alternative to traditional child care centers and offers professional homework tutoring with an on-site tutor, daily chapel services and low student-to-teacher ratios in separated classrooms.

Each day children will be offered healthy snacks, structured group play times and spiritual lessons. The program will also present seasonal drama and music productions.

Community Cafes offer free lunch

The Community Cafe offers free weekly lunches at Lake Wylie Lutheran Church at the corner S.C. 160 West and Gold Hill Road in Fort Mill every Friday, and at Fort Mill Community Bible Church on East Elliott Street in Fort Mill every Wednesday.

Lunch is 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.; donations accepted.

Flint Hill has clothing closet

Flint Hill Baptist Church, 269 Flint Hill Road, Fort Mill, has a clothing closet open from 9:30 a.m. to noon on the second and fourth Mondays of each month.

The closet offers clothing, shoes and some small household items. All items have been donated by members of the community and are offered free of charge.
