“The Battle of Huck’s Defeat” event will occur on 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 9 and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 10 at Brattonsville in McConnells. The two-day event will include battle re-enactments, 18th-century music by fiddlers Nash Lyle and Zach Lemhouse, period cooking demonstrations, children’s militia drills, camp-life activities, and shopping with period merchants on sutlers’ row. This year’s event will include cannon and musket firing demonstrations. Battle re-enactments will be the Battle of Rocky Mount at 2 p.m. July 9 and the Battle of Huck’s Defeat at 2 p.m. July 10. ▪ Deadline to submit entries for the 2016 Underexposed Film Festival is July 15. Films selected will be screened in November in Rock Hill. Films have a run time of less than 45 minutes. Categories include narrative, animation, experimental and documentary. Awards total $2,300. ▪ An event to promote a safe and violence-free summer for youth and the community, Put the Guns Down, will be 1-5 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion fairgrounds, 155 S. Cherry Road. Fundraisers
▪ Village Market and Masters Car Club will host a show and shine, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 23 at 2185 Neely Store Road. Registration is donation only. Proceeds will go the family of the Rev. Ray Martin, student pastor at Eastview Baptist Church to help with medical costs due to cancer. There will be a raffle for a Mossberg 12 gauge pump shotgun. Tickets are $2 or three for $5. ▪ York County 4-H will have a canning camp 10 a.m.-1 p.m. July 19-21 for ages 9-15 at the York County Extension office.
