▪ Deadline to submit entries for the 2016 Underexposed Film Festival is July 15. Films selected will be screened in November in Rock Hill. Films have a run time of less than 45 minutes. Categories include narrative, animation, experimental and documentary. Awards total $2,300. Special events

▪ An event to promote a safe and violence-free summer for youth and the community, Put the Guns Down, will be 1-5 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion fairgrounds, 155 S. Cherry Road. ▪ Winthrop University in conjunction with the Department of Social Services will be hosting an information session those interested in becoming licensed foster parents. Currently, there are more than 1,000 children in South Carolina that need a safe home. The information session will 10 a.m. Saturday July 9 at Chester Parks and Recreation Building, 161 W. Fundraisers

▪ St. John’s United Methodist Church will host a barbecue and bluegrass fundraiser with The Hinson Girls, 5-7 p.m. Saturday at 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill. Plates, $10 with sides; sandwiches, $8 with one side; children’s plates, $5. Proceeds to Epworth Children’s Home. Tickets in advance, call 803-547-7538 and at the door.

▪ Odessa’s Seniorcise class will host a Summer Bazaar, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Emmett Scott Center, 801 Crawford Road with clothing, housewares, electronics, furniture and toys. Clubs

▪ The Ballroom Dance Club meets 7:30-10:20 p.m. July 15 in the Oak Room, Fort Mill Golf Course, 101 Country Club Drive. Guests: $15, couples; $7.50, singles. Camp

▪ Rock Hill Community Theatre’s Summer Camp for students in grades K-12 are offered the weeks of July 11, 18, and 25 at 546 S. Cherry Road (just behind The ROC thrift store). The sessions are three hours daily. Camp fee is $125 per class and must be paid one week in advance. Register by e-mailing rhct@rockhilltheatre.org. For information, call 803-326-7428. Students in grades K-2 can choose Once Upon a Story (bringing favorite folk and fairy tales to life) or Creative Kids (focusing on literacy and character development through games and creative movement). Classes for grades 3-5 are Fractured Fairy Tales (a fun way to develop improvisation and character skills) and Creative Kids. And middle and high school students can learn to interpret a variety of scenes and songs from various musicals in Broadway Bound or learn design techniques in makeup and costume design. Each group will perform a showcase for parents and family members the last day of the class.

▪ Paula Blackwell basketball camp will be 9-11 a.m. Monday-July 14 at the York Recreation Center, 21 White Rose Lane. Camp is for boys and girls ages 5-15. Cost is $50 and includes a camp T-shirt.
