▪ Hospice & Community Care fourth annual Labor of Love (LOL) event Sept. 1 will feature Anita Renfroe, a break-out YouTube sensation, who rose to fame when she sang of everything a mother says to her children in a single day to the tune of “The William Tell Overture.” The show will be at 7 p.m. at Baxter Hood Center in Rock Hill. An opening reception begins at 6 p.m. She is the wife of a pastor and featured regularly on Good Morning America. She also is a speaker on the Woman of Faith Farewell Tour. Tickets are $25 and available at HospiceCommunityCare.org

Special events

▪ Fall vegetable crops will be the topic of First Friday in the Garden, 11 a.m. Aug. 5, at the Glencairn Garden Learning Center, 826 Edgemont Ave., Rock Hill. Clemson Extension Agent Paul Thompson will lead the program. Free and open to the public.

▪ Roosevelt Community Watch will host a Back-to-School Bash, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 13 at Roosevelt Park, 312 Mobley St., Clover. Children are given school supplies at the event which includes food, games, music and recreation. ▪ The Oakland Baptist Ministry at 1021 Charlotte Ave. (next to the Bridal and Formal Gallery) will provide free school uniforms for students in Rock Hill Hill middle schools. Uniform distribution will be 1-3 p.m. Aug. 10 and Aug. 13. Proof of Rock Hill residency is required.

Meetings

▪ The York County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs will meet 7 p.m. July 28 at the administration building, 7900 Park Place Road in the East York Industrial Park, off S.C. 5 in York. The board will consider a change in the By-Laws which defines our fiscal year as July 1-June 30.

▪ TheYork Soil and Water Conservation District commissioners will met 5 p.m. July 28 at the USDA Service Center, 1460 E. Alexander Love Hwy., York. Open to the public. For information, contact Barbara O’Connell at 803-684- 3137 ext. 101.

Entertainment

▪ Shakespeare Carolina Presents “Miss Julie” by August Strindberg, July 28-31 and Aug.4-7, in the Black Box in Johnson Hall at Winthrop University. This ‘upstairs, downstairs’ story explores the dark romance between a young countess, Miss Julie, and her father’s footman, Jean. Kristin, Jean’s fiancé, adds further intriguing dynamics to Miss Julie’s venture upon the edge of an emotional precipice. Performances will 8 p.m. July 28, 29, 30 and Aug. 4, 5, 6 and 3 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 7. Seating is Limited. After school programs

▪ The Discovery Station and Emmett Scott Center after school programs, operated by the Rock Hill Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department, for children in K5 through 5th grade are taking applications for the 2016-2017 school year. The programs offer homework assistance, literacy development, character education, arts, outdoor recreation and other fun activities. Both operate on the Rock Hill school district calendar. Discovery Station is at Fewell Park Recreation Center, 1204 Alexander Road, with bus transportation available from Richmond Drive Elementary. The Emmett Scott Center after school program is located at the Emmett Scott Recreation Center, 801 Crawford Road with bus transportation available from several schools. 4-H

▪ The Clemson Extension Service in York County in partnership with the City of Rock Hill will host the 4-H Come Grow With Me in the Garden series, September-December for ages 6-14 years. Classes will be 9 a.m.-2 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the Glencairn Garden Learning Center, 825 Edgemont Ave, Rock Hill. The classes will help youth cultivate awareness, knowledge, appreciation, and concern for the natural environment while learning about horticulture, vegetable gardening and leadership through creative activities and a service project. Hunger relief

▪ The Second Harvest Partners, sponsored by Providence Presbytery, will have a hunger relief site, 9 a.m. Wednesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church, 1214 Flint Hill St., Rock Hill. Classes

Auditions

▪ Fort Mill Playhouse will hold auditions for “Marmalade Gumdrops,” a youth production for rising sixth- to 12th-grades, 6-8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Fort Mill Community Playhouse, 220 Main St. Production dates are Sept. 16-18 and 23-25. Patrick Hospice House, knit Prayer Shawls, help with fundraisers and community education, and many more opportunities with flexible schedules. Camp

▪ A violin camp for beginners, taught by Casey Mink, will be July 29-31 at Westminster Church, 1320 India Hook Road, Rock Hill. Cost is $80 per family.
