Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: Two Fort Mill congregations joined in a day of service on April 18 to help beautify Walter Elisha Park. This is the second year these volunteers helped at the park. Sixty-four members worked to spread pine needles around 40 trees that line the park.

The service begins with a procession led by the Beadle – an office dating to pre-Christian times, the Beadle was the doorkeeper responsible for opening places of worship to the faithful – carrying the Bible followed by bagpipes, the minister, a display of representative tartans and the choir. The service will include material from the Book of Worship from the Church of Scotland. Worshipers with Scottish heritage are encouraged to wear kilts.

Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, Oakland Avenue, Rock Hill: The Rev. Jeffrey Earl Bryan has been called Senior Pastor, Head of Staff. Bryan received his masters of divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, N.J, where he was awarded the coveted Jagow Prize for preaching excellence. He is currently a candidate for his doctor of ministry at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pa. Bryan’s first Sunday in the pulpit will be May 3, with two traditional worship services: 8:45 and 11 a.m. A reception will be after the 11 a.m. service. The adult choirs of Oakland and The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour will present “The Requiem for the Living” by South Carolina composer Dan Forrest, May 16.
