FORT MILL -- Baxter Village residents this month will get to explore their new Baxter Village Hall during a drop-in at the 4,200-square-foot facility designed to accommodate about 250 people.
Clear Springs Development turned the new $2.5 million community center over to the Baxter Community Association last month. It is just off S.C. 160 at Baxter's westernmost entrance on Front Street.
"The approach we've taken is: Let's get the property owners involved from day one," said James Traynor, Clear Springs president. "They participate in decisions and are well positioned to accept control."
Baxter's Col. Springs Community Center, which opened eight years ago, is smaller and has a junior Olympic pool. Its upstairs meeting room can hold 90 to 100 people, Traynor said.
The new Village Hall features a large front porch and back veranda on both sides of a great hall with two fireplaces. It also offers a full kitchen and conference room.
"The Village Hall can accommodate much larger crowds," Traynor said.
Outside is a pool, mushroom fountain and lawn with swings, slides and a climbing wall.
The new hall will be "most likely used for more formal occasions, such as bridal showers, small weddings and adult parties," said Kathey Harter, Community Association manager.
The association's elected Use Committee will meet in early January to discuss use, rental rates, security deposits and whether the hall will be made available to nonmembers, Harter said.
