Lowrys farmer wins state agribusiness award
Peter B. Wilson of Lowrys recently won the state Agribusiness Award given by the South Carolina Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association.
Peter, his brother Jeb, and their father Jeff Wilson own Cotton Hills Farm near Lowrys.
The addition of a 6,400-square-foot climate controlled processing and packaging facility has helped change the agribusiness aspects of Cotton Hills Farm. The new facility has improved the efficiency of grading and packaging fruit and vegetables for marketing. The use of drip irrigation has resulted in record yields of products sold at their market adjacent the farm and other sales outlets throughout the region.
A graduate of Clemson University with a bachelor’s degree in business and a minor in agricultural mechanization, Peter Wilson continually researches innovative methods for the farm.
Peter Wilson is a graduate of Chester High School where he served as Future Farmers of America president. He won the National Ag Day essay competition in high school, writing about his experiences with no-till farming.
He is a member of the Chester County Young Farmer and Agribusiness chapter. He is married to the former Caroline Robbins of Rock Hill.

▪ Skills passed from father to son has allowed Daniel Lavalle to serve the Lancaster and York county residents who need specialized dryer vent repair, replacement, cleaning and maintenance.
The Lavalles moved their family and business, Dryer Vent Wizard, from Boston to North Carolina almost 10 years ago. After several years of helping his dad, Daniel Lavalle launched his own Dryer Vent Wizard business.
“With the growth of new homes in the area, many have laundry rooms that are conveniently located for homeowners,” Daniel Lavalle said. “However, it means the vent lines are longer and require more diligent maintenance.”
He also said hail storms have created problems when non-local contractors put on new roofs and install the wrong vent caps that do not allow for proper airflow.
▪ Lance Corporal Michael J. Shank, Post B/York County, was named the Troop Four’s outstanding trooper by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
