A popular Rock Hill brewery is closed after a worker tests positive for coronavirus.
Legal Remedy Brewing is closed after a team member tested positive for COVID-19.
The Rock Hill brewery posted on its Facebook page Monday night that a team member who hasn’t been at the brewpub since June 23 tested positive for coronavirus.
Team members who have been in close contact with the person who tested positive are self-isolating and will monitor symptoms for 14 days. They will be tested for the virus before returning to work.
“We are also taking this time to clean everything and review our safely protocols,” the post reads.
The intent is to reopen July 2.
Chad McGowan, owner of Legal Remedy, said Tuesday morning the decision to close until Thursday was made to protect staff and customers after the business received guidance from the state Department of Health and Environmental Control.
“We believed it was the prudent thing to do for the safety of staff and customers,” McGowan said. “We will not sacrifice safety for a few dollars.”
McGowan said the Legal Remedy food truck and pizza business will remain open.
All employees with close contact with customers had been wearing masks even before the positive test, McGowan said. Upon re-opening, those employees will still wear masks, he said.
“We have our employees wear the masks to show our customers that we care about them,” McGowan said.
Customers are not required to wear masks at the brewery, he said.
In 2015 Legal Remedy converted a former auto dealership in Rock Hill to am 11,000-square-foot brewpub on Oakland Avenue. According to its website, Legal Remedy has capacity to produce up to 10,000 barrels of beer per year.
The Legal Remedy’s closing comes after several other positive cases in the private sector in the past two months.
