A Chester County manufacturer will close its plant. Workers will be impacted
A Chester County plant will close, and that will impact 168 workers.
Footprint South Carolina filed a WARN report indicating the Richburg, S.C., plant will close by the end of March.
WARN reports, mandated by the U.S. Department of Labor, are documents filed when businesses intend to close or lay off workers. The report filed for the Richburg plant says employees will be laid off.
Three of the four WARN reports filed this year in South Carolina are for companies in the counties of York and Chester.
The other two WARN reports were for Monitronics International and HealthHelp Nurse Triage 24 in York County, and each impacted only a single employee. The Footprint Carolina filing in late January involves many more workers.
For comparison, last year there were six total employees impacted by WARN report filings in the counties of York, Lancaster and Chester. The Footprint filing is the largest employee count for a tri-county closing since Cardinal Health in Fort Mill announced five separate layoff or closing plans in 2021, impacting 194 employees.
Footprint is located at 546 L&C Distribution Park in Richburg. In early 2015, the sustainable materials and packaging company announced a $15.4 million investment in the new Chester County facility. That investment came with 115 promised jobs within five years.
