York County to vote on deal that would bring 800 new jobs to Fort Mill. Here are details
York County has another massive new business deal on the table.
The county and a manufacturing company have a potential agreement that would bring 800 new full-time jobs and an investment of $150 million. York County Council could pass the first of three votes Monday to allow tax incentives for the company.
A separate vote Monday would allow the county to accept a $2 million state economic development grant for the project.
The job and investment numbers come as pledges required if the company is to get tax incentives, which would allow the company to pay a fee instead of taxes. The negotiated fee structure would reduce company costs if thresholds are met. According to the agreement, the new jobs would come within eight years.
As is common with fee-for-tax deals, the county hasn’t named the company in the the ordinance needed to make the deal happen. However, an application to the state economic development council listed on York County’s website indicates the deal is for Canadian solar company Silfab, Inc. The company has sites in Toronto, and in Washington state.
The address listed in that application for the new site is 7149 Logistics Lane in Fort Mill. According to that economic development application, three-quarters of the new jobs would pay about $17 an hour. Other jobs would go up to more than $44 an hour. The annual payroll would be more than $34 million.
The fee deal allows the company to pay at an assessed 4% rate for 30 years. The typical manufacturing rate is 10.5%.
The decision for York County comes a month after votes began in a similar tax incentive deal that landed Pallidus. That addition to Rock Hill brings more than 400 jobs and an investment of $443 million.
