A new Christian campground retreat eyes Lancaster County. Here’s where it may come

Lancaster County

Another large campground proposal is in, this time for a Christian retreat in Lancaster County.

The owner of 335 acres at 2878 Kendelwood Dr., northeast of Lancaster, applied for a zoning change that would allow a campground. The property is on the south side of Shiloh Unity Road. The county zoning board of appeals will hear the case Tuesday.

Development would occur on about 20 acres of the property. It would involve primitive and RV camping. The site also could be used for couples retreats and team building events. There would be an activity center with bus parking, and a chapel.

The listed group behind the campground is Spirit 1st Ministries.

The latest proposal comes after a similar one last year on Cedar Creek Road, near Great Falls Highway. That site, across from Dry Branch Lane, is 78 acres near the Chester County line. Plans there involved an RV resort to employ people with special needs, a dog park, lake pier, pool, bath houses and more.

That plan was approved last fall after an initial delay related to concern from hunt clubs bordering the property.
