Two projects pitched 1,500 new Chester County homes. Neither will happen
Just weeks ago, Chester County had two builders with plans on the table that would bring 1,500 new homes.
Neither of those projects will make it across the finish line.
County administrator Brian Hester said the county received an official withdrawal letter Tuesday for a D.R. Horton project, just hours before Chester County Council met to consider it.
“They’ve chosen to withdraw from the process along with the landowner, for their application for rezoning,” Hester told council.
The letter lists delays in rezoning and new development fees as reasons the company and landowner won’t continue the project.
Magnolia Trace involved four rezoning requests south of Richburg, along Lancaster Highway east of I-77. The almost 500-acre project could’ve added 1,100 new residences.
That withdrawal comes only days after Fielding Homes withdrew its rezoning request for Richburg Meadows. That project would’ve added 400 homes on Grant Farm Road, on 180 acres. The property owner indicated to council a new development project would move forward there, but not with the same builder.
The projects had favorable reviews from the county planning commission, but also faced questions from council on how they could support the community through development fees on new construction.
