Bluestar Silicones of York celebrates meeting hiring goal
J. Christopher York, president of Bluestar Silicones in North America, visited the company’s York plant last week and shaved his head to celebrate a challenge met.
“Successfully accomplishing the challenge involved the support of all employees locally and globally working together to make it happen,” York said in a statement prior to his visit. “I couldn’t be more proud of my team and intend to make fulfilling my end of the challenge fun and meaningful, even if it means getting my head shaved!”
The company celebrated reaching its hiring objectives as outlined under the South Carolina Revitalization Agreement. Bluestar Silicones has brought 54 new jobs to the local economy since moving to York in 2012. The company employs 109 people at its York plant.
As part of the celebration, employees purchased raffle tickets for a chance to be one of the three employees to shave York’s head. Proceeds from the raffles will be donated to St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which funds research to find cures for childhood cancers.
