Bowties, booze & The Reaper Sauce. Which Rock Hill region products are among SC’s coolest?
Sure, the Rock Hill region makes its fair share of cool products. But can it compete with caskets, hanging helicopter baskets, kazoos and — dare we say — Duke’s Mayonnaise?
The South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance has more than 150 state-made products up for the title of “coolest thing made in South Carolina” in its fourth annual Manufacturing Madness. York, Lancaster and Chester counties produced 13 of the entries. Local items range from bow ties to pet supplements to needle roller bearings.
An online vote at scmanufacturingmadness.com runs through the end of Thursday, Feb. 27. Then, the top 16 products from the vote will enter a knockout bracket. The winner will be announced March 26.
The competition is stiff. There are United States flags, Army uniforms and Navy submarines. Planes, cars and boats are well-represented, some with several entries from different companies across the state. Past Manufacturing Madness winners include steel from Berkeley County, the F-16 Fighting Falcon plane from Greenville and the Honda Talon from Timmonsville.
