Fort Mill could get a new play spot for kids, with drinks for the parents

Fort Mill could get a new family social park, where children play while their parents have a drink or listen to live music.

GET Social Park would have a 5,000-square-foot building with an indoor play area, seating, two event rooms and a covered patio. It’ll have beer, wine and some food available for adults, according to plans submitted to York County.

A 2,000-square-foot outdoor family game space would have a playground and gazebo for music performances. There’s also a nature trail, yoga space and a spot for a food truck.

The social park plans require a special zoning exception for the 3286 Hwy. 160 W. property, which could come Thursday. York County planning staff recommend in favor of that exception.

Charlotte company GR Cola bought two parcels for $650,000 in January that combine for about 3 acres. The GET Social Park site is 800 feet south of the North Carolina line, and the Steele Creek area of Charlotte. It’s also near the main peninsula of Tega Cay.

The social park would have a capacity of 100 people, according to information submitted to the county. It would be open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. And it would have up to six beer or wine taps, but no liquor. Food trucks would rotate in on weekends.

A traffic impact reported submitted with the project lists a 2027 opening.

New restaurant, drink shop openings for York County

The new social park isn’t the only addition planned in the area. Others include:

Techno Cafe is open in Rock Hill, and has a grand opening set for Friday. The shop at 300 Technology Center Way has automated, robotic coffee service with hot and cold brew options. The company has mobile coffee machines for spaces like airports and hospitals, too. Friday’s event runs 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Cattle Car in Clover hasn’t announced an opening date, but did post on social media Wednesday morning that staff orientation starts this weekend and “opening time is getting close.” The new restaurant at 111 N. Main St. will serve smashburgers, chicken wings, cheesesteaks and salads, along with craft cocktails.

Milk Train Creamery plans to open in July. The family-owned spot at 725 Bethel St. in Clover will offer ice cream, sundaes, smoothies and milkshakes. It’s on the end of the shopping center where Saltwater Markets and several other businesses are, in the former The Bridge Community Church space.

A Chipotle is coming to Lake Wylie, York County Councilman Andy Litten posted online. County building permits confirm the Chipotle is going in at 5001 Charlotte Hwy., beside Waffle House. The casual Mexican grill chain has 48 South Carolina locations including two each in Rock Hill and Indian Land, and one in Fort Mill.

Jekyll & Hyde opened its taphouse and grill in Baxter, late last month. The Fort Mill location at 993 Market St. is the fourth for the restaurant that serves steaks, burgers and sandwiches. There’s also a late-night menu and a range of beer, wine and cocktails.
