Wells Fargo details latest bank branch closings in the Charlotte region and NC
Wells Fargo is closing two more Charlotte region branches this summer.
The branches at 1018 Dallas-Cherryville Hwy. in Dallas and 50 Union St. South in Concord will close at 11 a.m. Sept. 10, Wells Fargo told The Charlotte Observer on Wednesday.
Last month, Wells Fargo confirmed it was cutting 194 jobs in Winston-Salem as it exits the chief operating office global operations there, as well as other business units.
The branch closings and layoffs come just weeks after the Federal Reserve removed Wells Fargo’s $1.95 trillion asset cap punishment over its 2016 fake sales scandal. From 2002 to 2016, hundreds of thousands of Wells Fargo’s Community Bank employees opened millions of unauthorized or fraudulent accounts and other financial products to meet excessive sales goals.
Wells Fargo referred its Dallas customers to the Gaston Mall branch about 5 miles away at 403 Cox Road in Gastonia. Concord customers can use the Wilmar branch at 868 Church St. N., about 2 miles from the Union Street site.
“We are focused on evolving our branch presence based on customer usage and the changing traffic patterns and retail landscape to best meet the banking needs of each community we serve,” Wells Fargo said.
The drive-up ATMs at both sites will remain open once the branches are closed.
Employees at the two sites will be transferred to nearby branches. Wells Fargo declined to say how many employees work at each branch.
Earlier this year, Wells Fargo closed a branch in Hickory at 200 First Ave. NW, according to the N.C. Office of the Commissioner of Banks.
Wells Fargo is based in San Francisco and has 215,000 employees, including 27,000 at its largest employment hub in Charlotte.
More Wells Fargo branch closings in NC
Other North Carolina Wells Fargo branches already closed this year, according to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, are:
▪ Raleigh, 7801 Falls of Neuse Road, effective March 19
▪ Fayetteville, 200 Green St., effective May 16
▪ Fayetteville, 1200 Murchison Road, effective May 16
▪ Forest City, 330 W. Main St., effective May 16
▪ Chapel Hill, 112 W. Barbee Chapel Road, effective May 16
▪ Chapel Hill, 207 South Road, effective May 21
All employees were transferred to other branches.
Still, Wells Fargo said bank branches play an important role in serving customers combined with its mobile app, website and ATMs.
“We are actively investing in our branch network by opening new locations and refurbishing our entire network,” Wells Fargo said Wednesday.
