American Airlines is resuming its nonstop flight between Charlotte and Athens next spring after successfully operating the new route from this past June to September.

Service between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Athens International Airport will resume on May 21, the airline confirmed Thursday. Pilots will be taking passengers overseas on a Boeing 777-200, which has more than 270 seats.

American Airlines added the flight to Greece this year because its a high-demand destination, said Brian Znotins, senior vice president of network planning, in a YouTube video referenced by the airline.

He said the route performed well with 90% of seats being filled on flights, but the airline did not provide additional information Thursday.

Bookings for the 10-hour flights are available online at aa.com.

The cost of a nonstop roundtrip ticket going to Athens on May 21, 2026, and coming back to Charlotte on May 28 is about $1,200 in the main cabin — the lowest cost option available at this time. A premium business ticket will cost a passenger more than $4,000, according to the website.

The service began June 5 and and continued through early September after it was announced in September 2024. It was part of the company’s 2025 schedule with new routes to Europe. Athens was one of eight European destinations mentioned. The others were Dublin; Frankfurt, Germany; London; Madrid; Munich; Paris; and Rome.
