Packaging company to add 116 jobs, invest $92 million in York County expansion

A packaging company will invest $92 million and add 116 jobs with a new manufacturing site in York County.

Pratt Industries is one of the biggest corrugated packaging companies in the country and one of the world’s largest privately held producers of 100% recycled containerboard, according to a statement from South Carolina officials.

York County government and economic development officials said in a social media post the average pay at the manufacturing site will be more than $30 per hour.

Business and government officials made the announcement about the new jobs and investment. Both York County Council chair Christi Cox and Rock Hill Mayor John Gettys said Pratt’s new manufacturing site will bring good jobs.

“Pratt Industries’ expansion highlights York County’s ability to support companies that are building a sustainable future,” Cox said. “We value their partnership and the quality jobs this project brings to strengthen opportunity across our community.”

Gettys said the Rock Hill location is “a great fit to support Pratt’s growing business” with the addition of more than 100 jobs.

S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster said in a statement the project is a “big win for South Carolina’s recycling industry.”

Site is second Pratt location in York County

The company will upfit a site at 2087 Williams Industrial Blvd. in Rock Hill to manufacture its packaging products, according to officials. It remains unclear when the manufacturing plant will open.

Pratt already has a recycling center on Cel-River Road in Rock Hill.

Officials said people interested in learning about job opportunities should visit the company’s career page on its website.
