A popular Rock Hill taphouse is closing, but not before going out with a bang

Hoppin’ in Rock Hill will close by the end of May, the company announced Monday.

The on tap beer, cocktails and gathering spot that opened three years ago will close May 30, according to a post on its Facebook page.

“It’s hard to put into words what these last three years have meant to us,” owners Joe and Sue Gulledge posted. “What started as a simple vision for a taproom turned into something far greater.”

The decision to close was difficult, but the final weeks will lead up to “THE 3ND,” the post said, a combination third anniversary and closing party. The owners credit Rock Hill with making memorable moments from mechanical bull rides to dueling pianos to firework shows.

“Looking back, it was the people, both our amazing team and customers, who truly made it so (special),” the post said.

Joe, a former high school band director in Clover and Rock Hill, and Sue Gulledge, a former high school guidance counselor, converted the former cotton warehouse at 110 Southern St. to create the self-pour taphouse.

Within an hour of Monday’s post, it had 100 comments sharing memories of the Rock Hill space. They mentioned going there for a wedding, baby shower, orchestra get-togethers, a silent book club and trivia nights.

“We’re absolutely devastated. Thank you all for being kind to us and welcoming us every visit,” said Victoria Watson.

“This sucks. Between the comedy shows and the board game events, it was really becoming a bit of a second home to me,” said Alex Santos.

“One of the best venues to play cornhole outside at! Thank you for giving us an awesome place to play and be comfortable in,” said Chad Stuver.
