Another Charlotte-area company just made the Fortune 500 list. Now there’s 8

Eight Charlotte-area companies landed on the 2026 Fortune 500 list that was just released. That’s one more than last year.

Ingersoll Rand, the machines and industrial equipment company based in Davidson cracked the list this year and landed at No. 494 for biggest companies based on $7.6 billion in total revenue.

In 2020, Ingersoll Rand was formed under a spinoff-merger of the original Ingersoll Rand’s industrial business with formerly Milwaukee-based Gardner Denver. The new company moved its headquarters to Davidson after wrapping up the merger deal in March 2020 — just weeks before the coronavirus pandemic hit North Carolina.

Ingersoll Rand reported a full-year 2025 revenue of $7.6 billion, a 6% increase compared to 2024. As of Dec. 31, the company had more than 21,000 employees, including about 6,100 in the U.S.

Charlotte-based Bank of America ranked highest overall for companies in North Carolina, even as it fell three spots to No. 20.

In total, North Carolina has 12 corporations on the business magazine’s list, up from 11 last year.

Who’s on the Fortune 500 list from Charlotte?

Here are the Fortune 500 companies in the Charlotte area, their total revenue and sector:

  • No. 20: Bank of America, financials, down three spots. Revenue: $191.57 billion, down about 0.43% from last year.
  • No. 52: Lowe’s, retailing. The same rank as last year. Revenue: $86.3 billion, up 2.7%.
  • No. 116: Honeywell, industrials. Gained three spots. Revenue: $40.69 billion, up 6.8%.
  • No. 142: Nucor, materials. Down two spots. Revenue: $32.49 billion, up 4.7%.
  • No. 145: Duke Energy, energy. Down one spot. Revenue: $31.79 billion, up 5.8%.
  • No. 150: Truist, financials. Climbed 18 spots. Revenue: $30.44 billion, up 15.7%.
  • No. 297: Sonic Automotive, retailing. Up seven spots. Revenue: $15.15 billion, up 7.89%.
  • No. 494: Ingersoll Rand, industrials. Revenue: $7.65 billion.

Fortune 500 companies with strong Charlotte ties

Some other companies of note:

Wells Fargo, based in San Francisco but with a large presence in Charlotte, ranked at No.38, falling five spots.

Other banks with a growing presence in the Charlotte market on the list are: JPMorgan Chase, No. 12; Citigroup, No. 24; USAA, No. 93; U.S. Bank, No. 110; and Ally Financial, No. 295.

Also, LPL Financial with corporate headquarters in San Diego, California, and Fort Mill, S.C., is No. 264, jumping 76 spots from 2025.

About the 2026 Fortune 500 list

The companies on this year’s list are based in 229 cities across 39 states.

For the first time in more than a decade, it has a new leader, Amazon, with $716.9 billion, ended Walmart’s 13-year run atop the list. It had revenue of $713.2 billion.

The rest of the top five Fortune 500 companies are UnitedHealth Group ($447.6 billion), Apple ($416.2 billion) and Alphabet ($402.8 billion).

Together, the companies on the list combined for $21 trillion in total revenue, up 5%, and $2.1 trillion in profits, up 12%, according to Fortune. In total, the companies employ 30.5 million people worldwide.
