Fashion retailer rue21 is remodeling and expanding its store at the Galleria in Rock Hill.

The store is adding about 2,400 square feet for almost 8,000 square feet overall.

Rue21 is a teen specialty retailer is a mission to “make fashion everyone’s playground.”

“By working directly with the market, rue21 can react instantly to produce new trends and must-have styles that don’t exist anywhere else, offering a broad assortment in apparel and accessories for girls and guys and rue+ plus sizes,” said Deanna Tomaselli of rue21.

Construction will start Sunday is scheduled to be completed in the spring. The retailer will move to the former Aeropostate location near Belk. Aeropostate closed its Rock Hill location in January, according to mall officials.

“We are pleased that rue21 has identified Rock Hill Galleria as a prime location for retail expansion,” said Michael Wheat, managing director of leasing and marketing for Cypress Equities, the managing agent of Rock Hill Galleria.

“We are confident that shoppers will consider it a bonus to be able to shop a broader merchandise selection available at the expanded store.”

rue21 is expanding into space occupied by G2K Games. That store is also relocating to a new spot in the mall.

Rock Hill Galleria is located on Dave Lyle Boulevard directly off Interstate 77 at Exit 79.
