The purchasing power of York County residents continues to be at the top of South Carolina counties.
With a cost of living of $38,588 and a median income of $53,568 York County’s purchasing power index is 66.82 or fourth among South Carolina counties, according to Smart Asset, a New York-based financial-technology company.
The company released a cost-of-living study Thursday, showing York County had dropped from third among South Carolina counties in 2015.
Lancaster County ranked 14thand Chester County 37th for purchasing power in the 2016 study. In 2015, the counties ranked 18th and 29th, respectively.
Beaufort County residents ranked first for buying power statewide in 2016 at 70.59
Smart Asset’s study looked at the cost of living relative to income to determine purchasing power. Data for the study is from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
