AgSouth Farm Credit again returns profits to members

AgSouth Farm Credit, a customer-owned cooperative, had net earnings of $39.9 million during 2015, of which $846,656 was returned to members served by the Rock Hill branch.

It was the 25th consecutive year AgSouth has returned profits to its members.

AgSouth estimates that for every dollar the association returns to its members, between five to 10 dollars is spent in the communities it serves through payments for goods and services to local merchants.

AgSouth Farm Credit is an agricultural lending cooperative. The association provides loans for land, equipment and production agriculture; crop insurance; leasing; and home mortgages. The association serves 93 South Carolina and Georgia counties.

▪ Publix Super Markets, Inc. is distributing more than $261,000 from its Food For All 2015 fundraiser to North Carolina and South Carolina-area nonprofit organizations, including $120,000 to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina for the purchase of a refrigerated trailer.

Publix then filled that truck with food for the food bank. The Second Harvest Food Bank serves nonprofits in York County.

Altogether Publix donated $3.73 million total to 175 nonprofit organizations across its southeastern footprint. The annual event distributes funds to support programs that fight hunger and advocate for self-sufficiency on a local and regional level.

The Food For All campaign took place Dec. 3-24, 2015. Publix customers and associates contributed to the campaign by purchasing contribution coupons in $1, $3, or $5 amounts that were scanned during the checkout process and added to the purchase total.

▪ Dr. Harris Pastides, president of the University of South Carolina, has joined the SC Film Advisory Board, according to board founder Bert Hesse. Hesse is the CEO of Studio South Holdings.

▪ GT Radial tires made by Giti Tire placed 10th in the 2015 AutoPacific Replacement Tire Brand Dynamics and Satisfaction Study.

The study measured how satisfied owners are with 17 different tire attributes, ranging from performance and traction to fuel efficiency and price.

Giti is constructing its first U.S. plant in Richburg in Chester County. Tire production at the facility could start by the end of the year.

Giti also announced that it is extending the warranties of two of its passenger and light truck tires. The Champiro Touring A/S and the Savero HT2, are now backed with longer mileage warranties.

The limited mileage warranty on the Champiro Touring A/S has been increased from 50,000 to 60,000 miles, effective on any tires purchased on or after Jan. 1, 2016. The limited mileage warranty for the Savero HT2 has been increased from 40,000 to 50,000 miles, effective on any tires purchased on or after Jan. 1, 2016.
