Amid coronavirus closures: Some things you can do in this region
York County region schools are closed and restaurants have switched to curbside pickup, to go and delivery amid coronavirus, or COVID-19, closures.
There are still several ways residents can spend their time.
Outdoor experiences
- South Carolina state parks are open. Guidelines for visitors are posted to the state parks’ Facebook page.
- Rock Hill parks and trails are open. The BMX track is open for practice. All parks and recreation events have been postponed.
- Entrances and trails at the Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill remain open to visitors. Guests are asked to practice proper hygiene, to not use trails if sick and to maintain six feet from other people on trails. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own water. - The Tega Cay golf course is open, and guests are encouraged to follow hygiene guidelines and to not come to the course if sick, reads a post on the City of Tega Cay’s Facebook page. Golf course employees are disinfecting high-touch areas such as door knobs, counter tops and light bulbs as well as cleaning golf carts after each round. Players are asked to keep six feet away from others.
- Mr. Putty’s Fun Park in Tega Cay is open 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily for miniature golf. Employees sanitize all equipment after use along with common areas, according to the company’s website. Axe throwing is open by reservation only to groups of no more than 10 people per hour.
- YMCA Camp Cherokee, in Blacksburg, is hosting outdoor challenges for families to complete while home. The challenges are posted daily to the camp’s Facebook page.
Virtual experiences
- The Cincinnati Zoo is hosting a home safari each day. Families can tune in to the zoo’s videos on its Facebook page, website or YouTube channel.
- The Arts Council of York County is hosting at-home screenings of past films from the Underexposed Film Festival yc.
- Families can chat daily with the Kings Mountain Military Park ranger on the park’s Facebook page.
- Historic Brattonsville and the Museum of York County will soon have videos on their social media pages for story time, crafts and animal experiences, according to Visit York County.
Shopping
Businesses and employees have also been impacted by the virus.
Visit York County has posted a list of local retailers continuing services amid closures. They include bike shops, drink companies, boutiques with online sales, a do-it-yourself projects studio, a pottery center and a yoga studio offering Facebook live classes.
