COVID-19 to close a York County public golf course, tennis facility and more.

Heading into warm weather and what typically would be a busy season, the city-owned Tega Cay golf course will close.

The city posted a message Friday that its golf course, croquet court and tennis facilities will close March 28 due to the COVID-19 coronavirus. The closure will remain in place until further notice.

“It was a decision that was not arrived at lightly, but given the spread of COVID-19 locally and for the protection of everyone we feel this is the right decision to make at this time,” reads a notice posted to the city website. “The golf staff will continue to maintain the facilities so that when restrictions begin to lift, they are ready to welcome our community back to the facility.”

The golf course in Tega Cay is a major public amenity. It’s clubhouse and surrounding grounds serve as a gathering area for everything from dining to city council meetings to public celebrations like July 4 festivities. The more than 135-acre course meanders through much of historic Tega Cay, the peninsula on Lake Wylie.
