York County reports third coronavirus death, local infected cases increase
A third person from York County has died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, health officials reported late Saturday.
South Carolina health officials announced 144 new coronavirus cases Saturday, bringing the state’s total to 3,207 cases.
York County reported two new cases while Chester and Lancaster County both added one, reports the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.
York County’s total is now 127 positive cases, Chester County sits at 18 and Lancaster County has 62 reported cases, according to DHEC.
Officials also announced eight more people died from the virus, bringing the total number of deaths to 80, DHEC reports.
Five people who died were older with underlying health conditions and were from Beaufort, Clarendon, Florence, Kershaw and York counties, reports DHEC. Two people who died were middle-aged with other health problems. They were from Greenville and Sumter counties.
Another older person from Dorchester county also died, reports DHEC. Health officials are investigating if that person had underlying health conditions.

DHEC also reports estimated cases based on the number of confirmed positive cases.
York County has an estimated 907 positive cases, Lancaster County has an estimated 443 and Chester County could have up to 129 positive cases.
