Shutterfly employee at Fort Mill site tests positive for coronavirus, company says

An employee at the Shutterfly site in Fort Mill has tested positive for coronavirus, company officials said.

The employee is the only positive case at the site in York County, said Sondra Harding, spokesperson for Shutterfly.

All employees at Shutterfly were told a worker had tested positive, Harding said in a written statement to The Herald.

“As soon as leadership was aware of the positive COVID-19 case, the teams immediately and individually contacted those they believe could have been exposed, and notified the entire facility,” Harding said. “An additional outside service was also brought onsite to perform electrostatic spray treatment to the area of exposure. This is the only positive COVID-19 case at the Fort Mill location.”

No employees have lost jobs or been denied time away from work because of the pandemic, and any worker who feels unwell is asked not to come to work, Harding said.

Shutterfly has around 400 employees at the Fort Mill site, Harding said.

The Fort Mill location continues to be cleaned and disinfected daily and has increased deep cleaning and sanitizing of all work and manufacturing areas, restrooms and break rooms, Harding said.

“Additionally, we have staggered break times, limited access to common areas, and marked floors in areas where employees congregate to ensure proper social distancing,” Harding said. “We have also provided face masks and face shields to all employees in the facility.”

Shutterfly will continue to follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Harding said.

“The health and safety of our employees and all onsite personnel is our top priority,” Harding said in the statement. “We have been adhering to CDC and local health authorities’ guidelines at all of our facilities nationwide, and instituted significant precautionary measures weeks ago to protect our teams.”

Shutterfly opened its York County location near Interstate 77 close to Exit 85 in 2013. Shutterfly provides communications and products including personalized photographs and other services, according to its website.

Since the pandemic started, there have been 222 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in York County, according to The S.C. Department of Heath and Environmental Control.

In the business and government environment, positive cases have been reported at a Publix grocery store in Fort Mill, Lowe’s Home Improvement in York. Law enforcement officers at the Fort Mill Police Department, Rock Hill Police Department, York County Sheriff’s Office and Clover Police Department have also tested positive for coronavirus.
