Coronavirus latest: Lancaster County tops 200 total cases, Chester adds 7 new cases
York and Lancaster counties reported significant increases in new coronavirus cases over the weekend, South Carolina health officials announced.
York County added 21 cases over the weekend, for a total of 465 cases, according to the Department of Health and Environmental Control.
Lancaster County added 16 cases, and Chester County confirmed seven new cases over the weekend. Now, Lancaster County has had 201 confirmed cases of the virus since the pandemic started, and Chester County has had 103 cases.
DHEC identified 390 new cases of COVID-19 across the state Sunday. There have now been a total of 14,286 cases reported in South Carolina.
The agency announced Sunday that one elderly individual in Darlington County died as a result of the virus. Based on DHEC’s count, there now have been 546 coronavirus-related deaths in South Carolina.
Last week, Lancaster County Coroner Karla Knight Deese announced another resident died as a result of the virus. Her office has now confirmed seven coronavirus-related deaths in the county. Deese did not release any more details about the death.
As of Sunday, DHEC has confirmed six deaths in Lancaster County.
As of Sunday, labs across the state have completed more than 246,331 tests, and in all, about 6% of tests have come back positive.
