Worker at Rock Hill Food Lion positive for coronavirus, store officials say

A worker at a Food Lion grocery store in Rock Hill has tested positive for coronavirus, store officials said.

The positive case is the fourth for a Food Lion employee in York, Chester and Lancaster counties, according to the company.

The employee who tested positive works at the store on East Main Street, said Matt Harakal, external communications manager for the grocery chain. The employee last worked on June 18, Harakal said in a written statement to The Herald. The associate will not return to work until cleared by South Carolina health officials, Harakal said.

After the positive test, store officials did a cleaning of the store, Harakal said.

“In an abundance of caution, we took immediate action to execute an enhanced cleaning procedure as guided from the local, state and national health authorities, including the Centers for Disease Control,” Harakal said.”These cleaning procedures were in addition to our ongoing, rigorous sanitary practices, which have been greatly expanded during the health crisis.”

Two employees at stores in Lake Wylie and one at the Lancaster store tested positive earlier in June, Food Lion officials said.

Food Lion is based in Salisbury, N.C.. The chain operates 14 stores in York, Chester and Lancaster counties in South Carolina.

Grocery stores in South Carolina have remained open since the pandemic began in March. One employee at a Publix in Fort Mill tested positive in March, Publix officials said.
