10 new coronavirus cases reported in York County Sunday, more deaths added

York County added its lowest number of daily coronavirus cases Sunday since the beginning of June, health officials announced.

Ten cases were reported in the county, according to information released by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. The last time the county added fewer cases was on June 7, with eight cases.

The total case count in York County now sits at 4,997, according to DHEC data.

One death was reported Sunday, according to DHEC. The individual was 65 or older and died Wednesday. The county has had 65 deaths since the pandemic started in mid-March.

Cases in Lancaster and Chester counties each went up by three Sunday, DHEC reported.

One death was also reported in Lancaster County. The individual was between 35 and 64 and died Tuesday. Lancaster County has now tallied 1,961 COVID-19 cases and 43 deaths, according to DHEC data.

In Chester County, there’s been 996 cases and 20 deaths, the agency reported.

Across South Carolina, 420 cases were reported Sunday. Since mid-March, 134,494 cases and 3,028 deaths have been reported statewide.

Of the 4,566 tests completed Saturday across the state, 9.2% came back positive, according to DHEC data.

York County

York County has a “moderate” incidence rate, based on DHEC’s definition. The two-week cumulative incidence rate represents new cases reported in the last two weeks per 100,000 people.

In the county, officials have administered 49,403 COVID-19 tests since March, with 13.9% coming back positive, according to DHEC data. The county’s weekly average of percentage positive — which indicates how widespread the virus is — has fallen since it hit a high in mid-July.

For the week ending July 20, on average, about 23.4% of all tests were positive. For the week ending Sept. 19, the total was at 11.3%.

The 29730 ZIP code, which includes Rock Hill and extends to the Lesslie community, has the most coronavirus cases in the county with 1,237. The next-highest ZIP code is 29732, which covers the Newport and India Hook areas, with 1,155 cases.

Lancaster County

Lancaster County has a “moderately high” incidence rate, based on DHEC’s definition.

Health officials in the county have administered more than 18,115 COVID-19 tests since March, with 14.7% coming back positive, according to DHEC data. The county’s weekly average of percentage-positive has slightly gone up since mid-July.

For the week ending on July 19, on average, about 14.6% of all tests were positive. For the week ending Sept. 16, the total was at 15.7%.

The 29720 ZIP code, which covers the city of Lancaster, has the most coronavirus cases in Lancaster County with 1,406. That means about 72% of the county’s cases are in that ZIP code.

Chester County

After weeks of having a “high” incidence rate, Chester County is now considered to have a “moderately high” rate, based on DHEC’s definition.

In Chester County, health officials administered more than 8,016 COVID-19 tests since March, with 17.2% coming back positive, according to DHEC data. The county’s weekly average of percentage positive has dropped since mid-July.

For the week ending on July 17, on average, about 27.3% of all tests were positive. For the week ending Sept. 16, the total was at 15.8%.

The 29706 ZIP code, which covers the city of Chester, has the most coronavirus cases in Chester County with 637. That means about 64% of the county’s cases are in that ZIP code.
