York County’s coronavirus case count tops 5,000 Monday since start of pandemic
York County’s coronavirus case count has now topped 5,000, health officials announced Monday.
An additional 19 cases were added, according to information released by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
The total case count in York County now sits at 5,018, according to DHEC. The county has had 65 deaths since the pandemic started in mid-March. York County has a population of more than 220,000.
Cases in Lancaster County went up by 16 Monday, DHEC reported. One death also was reported Monday in Lancaster County. The individual was 65 or older and died last Tuesday, according to DHEC.
Lancaster County now has tallied 1,978 COVID-19 cases and 44 deaths, according to DHEC data. That county’s total population is just over 100,000.
Chester County’s case count topped 1,000 Monday. The county, with a population of just over 32,000, added four cases, for a total of 1,000 cases and 20 deaths, the agency reported.
Across South Carolina, 393 new cases were reported Monday. Since mid-March, 134,884 cases and 3,040 deaths have been reported statewide.
Of the 4,120 tests completed Sunday across the state, 9.5% came back positive, according to DHEC data.
York County
York County has a “moderate” incidence rate, based on DHEC’s definition. The two-week cumulative incidence rate represents new cases reported in the last two weeks per 100,000 people.
In the county, officials have administered 49,975 COVID-19 tests since March, with 13.8% coming back positive, according to DHEC data. The county’s weekly average of percentage positive — which indicates how widespread the virus is — has fallen since it hit a high in mid-July.
For the week ending July 20, on average, about 23.4% of all tests were positive. For the week ending Sept. 20, the total was at 11.3%.
The 29730 ZIP code, which includes Rock Hill and extends to the Lesslie community, has the most coronavirus cases in the county with 1,239. The next-highest ZIP code is 29732, which covers the Newport and India Hook areas, with 1,160 cases.
Lancaster County
Lancaster County has a “moderately high” incidence rate, based on DHEC’s definition.
Health officials in the county have administered more than 18,326 COVID-19 tests since March, with 14.7% coming back positive, according to DHEC data. The county’s weekly average of percentage-positive has slightly gone up since mid-July.
For the week ending on July 19, on average, about 14.6% of all tests were positive. For the week ending Sept. 20, the total was at 15%.
The 29720 ZIP code, which covers the city of Lancaster, has the most coronavirus cases in Lancaster County with 1,417. That means about 72% of the county’s cases are in that ZIP code.
Chester County
After weeks of having a “high” incidence rate, Chester County is now considered to have a “moderately high” rate, based on DHEC’s definition.
In Chester County, health officials administered more than 8,090 COVID-19 tests since March, with 17.2% coming back positive, according to DHEC data. The county’s weekly average of percentage positive has dropped since mid-July.
For the week ending on July 17, on average, about 27.3% of all tests were positive. For the week ending Sept. 20, the total was at 12.8%.
The 29706 ZIP code, which covers the city of Chester, has the most coronavirus cases in Chester County with 638. That means about 64% of the county’s cases are in that ZIP code.
