Lancaster County’s coronavirus case count exceeds 2,000.
Just days after York and Chester counties reached coronavirus case count milestones, Lancaster County’s count topped 2,000 Wednesday.
An additional 12 cases were added in the county, with a total population just over 98,000, according to information released by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. The total case count now sits at 2,006, according to DHEC.
One death also was reported Wednesday in Lancaster County. The individual was 65 or older and died Monday, according to DHEC. The county has had 45 deaths since the pandemic started in mid-March.
Cases in York County went up by 20 Wednesday, DHEC reported. One death also was reported in the county Wednesday. The individual, between 35 and 64, died at the end of August, according to DHEC.
York County, with a population of about 280,000, now has tallied 5,079 COVID-19 cases and 67 deaths, according to DHEC data.
Chester County’s case count went up by one Wednesday. The county, with a population of 32,000, has had 1,004 cases and 20 deaths since mid-March, the agency reported.
Across South Carolina, 613 new cases were reported Wednesday. Since mid-March, 138,171 cases and 3,085 deaths have been reported statewide.
Of the 5,592 tests completed Tuesday across the state, 11% came back positive, according to DHEC data.
York County
York County has a “moderate” incidence rate, based on DHEC’s definition. The two-week cumulative incidence rate represents new cases reported in the last two weeks per 100,000 people.
In the county, officials have administered 51,002 COVID-19 tests since March, with 13.9% coming back positive, according to DHEC data. The county’s weekly average of percentage positive — which indicates how widespread the virus is — has fallen since it hit a high in mid-July.
For the week ending July 20, on average, about 23.4% of all tests were positive. For the week ending Sept. 21, the total was at 11.1%.
The 29730 ZIP code, which includes Rock Hill and extends to the Lesslie community, has the most coronavirus cases in the county with 1,254. The next-highest ZIP code is 29732, which covers the Newport and India Hook areas, with 1,174 cases.
Lancaster County
Lancaster County has a “moderately high” incidence rate, based on DHEC’s definition.
Health officials in the county have administered more than 18,721 COVID-19 tests since March, with 14.7% coming back positive, according to DHEC data. The county’s weekly average of percentage-positive has fluctuated since mid-July.
For the week ending on July 19, on average, about 14.6% of all tests were positive. For the week ending Sept. 21, the total was at 16.5%.
The 29720 ZIP code, which covers the city of Lancaster, has the most coronavirus cases in Lancaster County with 1,437. That means about 72% of the county’s cases are in that ZIP code.
Chester County
Last week, Chester County downgraded from a “high” incidence rate to a “moderately high” rate. And now, this week, the county has a “moderate” rate, based on DHEC’s definition.
In Chester County, health officials administered more than 8,158 COVID-19 tests since March, with 17.2% coming back positive, according to DHEC data. The county’s weekly average of percentage positive has dropped since mid-July.
For the week ending on July 17, on average, about 27.3% of all tests were positive. For the week ending Sept. 21, the total was at 10.3%.
The 29706 ZIP code, which covers the city of Chester, has the most coronavirus cases in Chester County with 639. That means about 64% of the county’s cases are in that ZIP code.
