York County’s coronavirus case count levels but deaths climb by 11 in 10 days.
York County’s coronavirus-related death toll continued to climb Thursday, with two additional deaths reported, health officials announced.
The two residents were both 65 or older, according to information released by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. One died Tuesday, while the other died in early June, according to DHEC.
The county has had 69 confirmed virus-related deaths since mid-March, according to DHEC. And in the last 10 days, 11 deaths have been reported in York County, according to DHEC data.
Coronavirus cases in the county also went up Thursday.
An additional 24 coronavirus cases were added in York County, according to DHEC. The county, with a population of about 280,000, now has tallied 5,129 COVID-19 cases.
In Lancaster County, which has a total population just over 98,000, 14 cases were added, according to DHEC data. The total case count now sits at 2,028 and the county has had 45 confirmed deaths, according to DHEC.
Chester County’s case count went up by three Thursday. The county, with a population of 32,000, has had 1,005 cases and 20 confirmed deaths since mid-March, the agency reported.
Across South Carolina, 664 new cases were reported Thursday. Since mid-March, 139,021 cases and 3,097 deaths have been reported statewide.
Of the 6,995 tests completed Wednesday across the state, 9.5% came back positive, according to DHEC data.
York County
York County has a “moderate” incidence rate, based on DHEC’s definition. The two-week cumulative incidence rate represents new cases reported in the last two weeks per 100,000 people.
In the county, officials have administered 51,796 COVID-19 tests since March, with 13.9% coming back positive, according to DHEC data. The county’s weekly average of percentage positive — which indicates how widespread the virus is — has fallen since it hit a high in mid-July.
For the week ending July 20, on average, about 23.4% of all tests were positive. For the week ending Sept. 22, the total was at 11%.
The 29730 ZIP code, which includes Rock Hill and extends to the Lesslie community, has the most coronavirus cases in the county with 1,260. The next-highest ZIP code is 29732, which covers the Newport and India Hook areas, with 1,189 cases.
Lancaster County
Lancaster County has a “moderately high” incidence rate, based on DHEC’s definition.
Health officials in the county have administered more than 19,011 COVID-19 tests since March, with 14.7% coming back positive, according to DHEC data. The county’s weekly average of percentage-positive has fluctuated since mid-July.
For the week ending on July 19, on average, about 14.6% of all tests were positive. For the week ending Sept. 21, the total was at 16.9%.
The 29720 ZIP code, which covers the city of Lancaster, has the most coronavirus cases in Lancaster County with 1,456. That means about 72% of the county’s cases are in that ZIP code.
Chester County
Last week, Chester County downgraded from a “high” incidence rate to a “moderately high” rate. And now, this week, the county has a “moderate” rate, based on DHEC’s definition.
In Chester County, health officials administered more than 8,255 COVID-19 tests since March, with 17.1% coming back positive, according to DHEC data. The county’s weekly average of percentage positive has dropped since mid-July.
For the week ending on July 17, on average, about 27.3% of all tests were positive. For the week ending Sept. 22, the total was at 10.9%.
The 29706 ZIP code, which covers the city of Chester, has the most coronavirus cases in Chester County with 640. That means about 64% of the county’s cases are in that ZIP code.
