Here’s where the latest COVID cases are in York, Lancaster, Chester county schools.
Clover High School continues to add COVID-19 cases, as do schools in Rock Hill and Fort Mill.
On Tuesday, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control updated its listing of positive coronavirus cases in South Carolina schools. The health department updates the list each Tuesday and Friday.
The listing is cumulative, since the school year began. So not all cases on the list remain active in the schools. Clover High, for instance, shows 13 student positives.
“As of today,” said Clover School District spokesperson Bryan Dillon on Tuesday afternoon, “there are five (active cases) at Clover High School.”
The cumulative list from DHEC now shows 13 student positives and fewer than five staff positives at Clover High. Clover High is the only school in the tri-county area with five or more student positive tests, more than triple the next highest school. At more than 2,000 students, Clover High is one of the larger schools in the state.
Schools with fewer than five student or staff positives thus far also include Clover and Oakridge middle schools, and Crowders Creek and Oakridge elementary schools. Larne Elementary School has fewer than five cases of each, students and staff.
Statewide on Tuesday there were 97 new cases reported since four days prior. There are now 821 positives in schools in total, 570 students and 251 staff.
There are now 26 schools in York, Lancaster or Chester counties with at least one positive case since school began.
The York School District still has yet to report a coronavirus case. It’s the only such district in the tri-county area.
The Lancaster County School District shows data unchanged since Friday. Schools there with positive cases, fewer than five each, include Buford, Indian Land and Lancaster high schools, plus Buford and Kershaw elementary schools.
The Chester County School District still shows fewer than five positive cases district-wide, at The Learning Center.
Private schools with fewer than five cases each include Hawthorne Christian Academy in Chester County, and both Lake Pointe Academy and Westminster Catawba Christian School in York County.
Rock Hill School District
An online listing by the Rock Hill School District shows 12 student and seven staff positives. There are 187 students and 51 staff members in isolation or quarantine, or about 2% of those populations who attend school (Rock Hill has a separate virtual academy).
So far this week there have been three new positive student cases. There have been 19 students put in isolation or quarantine this week, and four such staff members.
Positive student cases since school began have come at South Pointe (3), Northwestern (2) and Rock Hill high schools. They’ve also come at Saluda Trail (2), Castle Heights and Sullivan middle schools, along with India Hook and Rosewood elementary schools.
Staff positives in that same time at the district Flexible Learning Center (2), Rock Hill High School, Dutchman Creek Middle School and Mount Gallant (2) and Mount Holly elementary schools.
There can be discrepancies between the district listing and the DHEC figures, based on when numbers are reported or at times whether a student may be enrolled in the district virtual program.
The DHEC listing shows fewer than five positive student cases at South Pointe High School, Saluda Trail and Sullivan middle schools, India Hook and Lesslie elementary schools. It shows fewer than five staff cases at Mount Holly Elementary School.
Fort Mill School District
The Fort Mill School District has an online listing of active cases there. That page updates on Fridays. It shows two current positive cases, both students at Orchard Park Elementary School. The list also shows 37 students and eight staff members across the district in quarantine.
The district has had prior positive cases this school year among students at each of its three high schools and Fort Mill Elementary School. Positive staff cases have come at Banks Trail and Gold Hill middle schools, plus district transportation.
As with the Rock Hill district listing, numbers can vary between the Fort Mill and DHEC sites due to reporting lag time or other factors. The DHEC listing as of Tuesday afternoon shows fewer than five new student cases at Springfield Middle School. Previously reported cases, fewer than five each, appear for Fort Mill High School, Springfield Middle and Doby’s Bridge, Fort Mill and Pleasant Knoll elementary schools.
