As COVID-19 numbers continue to climb, the state of South Carolina has broken its single-day record for the third time this week. That’s 13,000 new cases Thursday, according to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Officials have credited the highly contagious Omicron Variant, which they say accounts for 95% of cases in the country.

York County, Lancaster County and Chester county are all considered high-risk for exposure by DHEC.

SCDHEC recommends getting tested for COVID-19 if you: have symptoms of COVID-19; have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19; or are unvaccinated and have been asked to by your school, work place, healthcare provider, or health department. If you are vaccinated, you can wait up to 5 days from the date of exposure to be tested.

With the virus rapidly spreading and health organizations encouraging testing before social events or returning to work after the holidays, testing sites have been overwhelmed.

Here is our current compilation of area COVID-19 testing sites. Some allow scheduling ahead of time, which might save you from long lines.

If you know of a site we have missed, please contact Tobie Nell Perkins at tperkins@heraldonline.com.
