Freezing rain overnight expected to end before South Pointe noon kickoff

Weather officials Friday afternoon issued a freezing rain advisory through Saturday morning and cautioned drivers about potential icy conditions.

South Pointe High Schools’ football team and its fans are expected to travel Saturday morning to Columbia where the Stallions kick off at noon in the 4A stat championship game against Hartsville.

An alert from the National Weather Service stated there could be light accumulations in some areas of freezing drizzle and light rain. Bridges and overpasses are particularly susceptible to ice, weather officials said in the statement.

The advisory remains in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 9 a.m Saturday.
