Local churches feed the hungry at Christmas Eve lunch

tkimball@heraldonline.com

Seven local churches wanted to make sure no one went without a hearty Christmas Eve lunch.

Volunteers from the churches — part of the Hunger Outreach Program — gathered together at Grace Lutheran Church to prepare and serve about 200 lunches, said Earl Gatlin, a volunteer from Grace Lutheran.

The lunch included turkey, corn, green beans, rice, gravy, rolls and fruit. In addition, volunteers handed out bags of fresh fruit and delivered boxes of food to the Renew Our Community Outreach Center and an apartments complex.
