DOT closes Lancaster Co. bridge

The S.C. Department of Transportation has closed a bridge in Lancaster County, citing a potential rupture at a damaged pond upstream.

The bridge on Kendlewood Drive has been closed since Friday. The bridge passes over a stream feeding into North Prong Cane Lake, approximately eight miles northeast of Lancaster.

The bridge was closed at the request of the state Department of Health and Environmental Control, which said damage to a pond upstream could rupture and overwhelm the drainage system on Kendlewood Drive.

Drivers can detour from Potter Road to Shiloh Unity Road to Dudley Steele Road, an additional travel distance of 0.1 miles.
