A photo of several steely-faced BMX athletes racing at Rock Hill’s BMX Supercross track could put the city on the front page of a national magazine.

The photo, submitted by Rock Hill’s Parks and Recreation Department, is a semifinalist with 13 other photos in a Facebook “like” contest, vying for the honor of being on the July front cover of National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) magazine.

If the Rock Hill picture gets the most “likes” on a NRPA Facebook album, the photo will be put on the cover with a chance to promote the city’s upcoming 2017 UCI BMX World Championships to be held July 25-30.

The contest began Monday afternoon and will continue through 3 p.m. Friday.

Users can pick their favorite photos by liking the individual photo. Only likes on the photos in the album will count, so if you share your favorite photo, make sure your friends and followers know to come to NRPA’s page to like the photo.

City officials believe the event will be the largest international sporting event in South Carolina history. More than 20,000 fans are expected to flock to York County, along with some 3,300 athletes.
