A 3-year-old boy injured in a head-on collision Saturday in York has died, according to authorities and a relative.

Devin McGraw of Rock Hill was one of two children injured in the accident, according to a police report. He was first taken to Piedmont Medical Center and then transferred to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, a relative said.

Devin was placed on life support at Levine and underwent two tests Wednesday that showed no brain function, said James Cook, the child’s great uncle. The child passed away on Wednesday.

“He was just a happy-go-lucky child. He didn’t have a care in the world,” said Cook, who last saw Devin the day before his third birthday on Feb. 23.

Cook said his last memory of Devin was giving him $20 for his birthday and then exchanging a knuckle bump. “That’s the way we always said goodbye.”

Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Westside Cemetery in Lancaster. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Lancaster Funeral Home, 709 N. White St., Lancaster.

Devin’s death was confirmed by the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of death, however, will be released either by the York Police Department or York County Coroner Sabrina Gast, said an official with the medical examiner’s office. Gast said Friday she has not been notified of Devin’s death. York police Chief Andy Robinson could not be reached Friday.

The two-car crash happened Saturday on Alexander Love Highway, according to a York Police Department report. The driver of one car, Angela Privette, 50, was heading south on Alexander Love Highway when a GPS unit fell off the windshield of her SUV, according to the report. She reached down to retrieve the GPS, crossed the center line and hit a northbound SUV driven by Shaneka Jenkins, 39, according to the police report.

Cook said the crash happened around midday Saturday.

Devin was a passenger in Privette’s car. Three children – two girls and a boy – were in the second vehicle. One other child was taken to Levine Children’s Hospital with serious injuries but details of the child’s condition were not available Friday.

Devin is survived by his father, David Vogel of Lancaster, and his mother, Candice McGraw of Rock Hill; paternal grandparents, David Vogel Sr. of Rock Hill and Doug Sorrells and his wife, Lillian, of Lancaster; maternal grandparents, Bobby McGraw and his wife, Gina, of Rock Hill and Rusty Privette and his wife, Kim, of York.

York police said Friday they have contacted the solicitor’s office regarding whether charges should be filed.
